Help for BombzDes
=================
BombzDes is the level designer for Bombz, so there's no point in using
this without Bombz. It saves and loads levels directly to and from the
!Bombz application, so the filer must have 'seen' !Bombz for BombzDes to
work.
The Toolbox
-----------
Attached to the main window is a toolbox containing icons corresponding to
each type of character in the game. Click SELECT to make one the 'current
tool'; its icon button will change state to reflect this. Note that you can
set a predetonated bomb.
The Main Window
---------------
There are four types of operation you can
carry out in the main window:
Click SELECT to fill one cell with the character corresponding to the
current tool.
Click ADJUST to fill one cell with the blank character.
Drag SELECT to fill an area of cells with the current tool character.
Drag ADJUST to outline an area of cells with the current tool character
(useful for making a border for a level).
You must set one and only one start position for the droid. Trying to drag
with the current tool set to the droid results in an error message. If you
SELECT a new position it replaces the old one.
Loading and Saving
------------------
Instead of you dragging, BombzDes saves and loads levels directly to and
from the !Bombz application. You can view the contents of !Bombz's Levels
directory by choosing 'Open levels dir' from BombzDes' main menu.
The Load and Save options in the main menu have a submenu where you should
enter the number of a level you want to load or save. This number is used to
generate a three digit numeric string which is used as the filename within
!Bombz's Levels sub-directory. If you do not enter a level number the name
'000' is assumed.
BombzDes will warn you if you are about to lose some unsaved work by
quitting or loading a new level.
You must fill in the title and password for a level before saving it.
Templates
---------
By default BombzDes uses 3D templates suitable for RISC OS 3. If you want to
use '2D' templates, rename 'Templates' to 'Temp3D' and 'Temp2D' to
'Templates'. Or vice versa if someone's already changed it over to 2D
templates and you want to use 3D.
I would have made the choice automatic à la new !Printers, but it's not
possible with RISC_OSLib (Acorn's old C libraries).
